I took short hand when I was in high school and don't remember a lot of it. As a personal project I wanted to renew my short hand skills. The book is self-explanatory, and moves fairly quickly. At times, it moves too quickly in teaching symbols for sounds. However, you do go at your own pace which makes it easier.If you're new to short hand, you might struggle a bit more than if you've had experience with it.
I bought it for nostalgic reasons. I once knew Gregg shorthand and still used some of the phrases (words) in taking notes at meetings and in personal letters or cards (to my sister who also knew shorthand.) It is amazing how much I remembered and keep looking at it to pick up more and more words I should and can be using.
I bought this one and two others thinking they were different. Two of these (this one and the other one that says 1916 on it) are pretty much exactly the same…near photographs of the original book. This one, however, has larger text which makes it a little better. I'll just save the one for my granddaughter so she can learn "secret writing" for her own school work and taking notes when she gets older. I don't know that they use this any longer, but it is certainly a wonderful way to take notes. I'd think it would behoove every professional to learn this skill! I love it.
The book is new and we'll laid out with very good exercises but I have to give it only the stars because there is no key to the reading or the writing exercises.
I'm using this book to refresh my skills. I have been retired since 1997 and feel like I need to refresh my mind.
I thought it would come back to me with a snap of my fingers. Nope, I have to study again. Book is ok.
Took this in high school and Loved loved it, so I can not wait to get to start reading this. So I will try to leave a review in the near future. Have a great day
This book really teaches shorthand at its best...The lessons are very explanatory.....A Very excellent book for anyone who desires personal instruction.
