Nice cards, very cute, suitable for young grandchildren (under 10, I'd say). A number of the cards refer to "grandson" or "granddaughter", which means they're not usable for some people, or troublesome for those who have an uneven mix of grands. Would have been just as easy to make them refer to "grandchild", no? Also, there are a fair number that refer to faith-specific holidays, which means they're not particularly suitable for families not of those faiths.

I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for my mom, the grandmother of my two children. I was pleased with it when it came in the mail, but it was even more fun to watch my mom and son talk about the book after she opened it on Christmas morning. My son loves both sending and receiving mail so when a Grandma gram comes in the mail, he gets so excited. He is always looking forward to when he can send a note to grandma and it really does foster the close relationship my kids have with their grandma. It's especially great since we live halfway across the United States from each other. I love the bond they have and this is one way to encourage communication with my toddler and his grandma.

I really would not have ordered these if the description mentioned they are targeted towards granddaughter or grandson. I have no grandson and wasted money. Now they want to charge me shipping to return that is as much as the product costs. The postcards are not what I would expect for the price.

These are the best ideas for keeping in touch with grandchildren, but most of them could be used to reach out to anyone. These serve my purpose quite well. My grandchildren are in high school and college, and they are so busy that I don't hear much from them. BUT, these handy-dandy postcards produce sufficient guilt that I do hear from them soon after I send one. I'm very careful not to over-do it though, or else they might lose their effectiveness. Anyhow, Love these Postcards!!

I purchased the first pack of grandograms for myself, and since, have purchased two more packs for friends. I send each grandchild one postcard a month, and they love receiving their own mail. The cards are a good size, sturdy, and the fronts are colorful.

My granddaughters absolutely love getting their postcards in the mail. Such a cute & clever idea. It makes it fun to stay in touch with them when they are so far away.

Our 2 grandchildren (2& 4) have individual mailboxes in their rooms. Fun cards to send every week. They love getting mail.

This is a book of postcards for special and everyday occasions. I love sending them to my grandchildren when school starts, holidays, at the end of school, and mostly when I just miss them. The kids really love getting them, too. They very seldom get mail so they are always very excited to receive their very own mail from Grandma (and there are several from Granddad, too.) Such a wonderful idea!

The Army Futures Command has just opened its headquarters in Austin, Texas, with a plan to ensure that the Army is prepared to fight the wars of the future. If this book is not on their reading list, it should be.Here are a few of the topics that the book covers. First, U.S. Army Ranger Scharre addresses the importance of "context" in combat by drawing on some of his experiences in combat in Afghanistan. The 7 year old girl sent by possibly hostile Afghans to recon his unit's position during an operation in Afghanistan. Under the definitions of war Ranger Scharre and his unit could have shot her, but they didn't because she looked to be about 7 years old. Would an autonomous weapon with the power to kill have made the same decision? Probably not.The book examines the question of "what is autonomy?" Not all nations define it the same way. What weapons have been built and used that could be considered autonomous. Some exist. Robots and drones - how are these being developed by the Pentagon and by private parties using off-the-shelf parts and software.Can autonomous weapons be used safely and, if they are used, what are the risks? Speed may be critical. If your opponent uses weapons that simply act faster than any human could, the likelihood is that other combatants will use these weapons as well.Does mankind "summon the demon" by building and deploying these machines? The book has a lengthy review of the parties and persons fighting to ban these weapons. If also looks at the effectiveness of various weapons bans both in the last century and over hundreds of years. Arms control has a very mixed history.One possible development may be the centaur warfighter - man plus machine. I read widely on AI and selected this book due to its ratings and a sample. My background includes ten years as a designer of control and safety systems for complex processes. This book definitely encompasses the whole spectrum of issues about autonomous weapons, including picking up bits from many high risk industries. These end up scattered about like little nuggets. There is significant discussion of the ethics and morals of accidents, and some of the politics of controlling technology.I found this a difficult read. Though the sections appeared to break this down into specific areas, the content within each section was often a mix of material that logically could have been elsewhere. There didn't appear to be an obvious reason for the ordering of the sections. Finally, the writing style was workmanlike, which is acceptable but not helpful when such a complex issue is the subject.I gave the book three stars because it was content rich but needed better execution to achieve its mission - whatever that may have been.

As a former U.S. Army ranger and a current Pentagon defense expert, Paul Scharre clearly explores the strategic, legal, and ethical pros and cons of the three degrees of autonomy, i.e. sophistication and intelligence, in weapons systems.Autonomous weapon systems can be subdivided into:1) semi-autonomous weapon systems (human in the loop), e.g. the homing munitions;2) supervised autonomous weapon systems (human on the loop), e.g. the U.S. ship-based Aegis combat system;3) fully autonomous operating weapon systems (human out of the loop), e.g., the Israeli Harpy.Mr. Scharre convincingly demonstrates to his audience that artificial intelligence (AI) systems can outsmart humans in narrow tasks but fall short of humans in general intelligence. For example, the U.S.-led coalition lost several aircrafts due to U.S. Patriot fratricides during the second Gulf War. In reality, the blame for these fratricides was to be assigned to the weapon system …. and some of its human operators who lack the required critical mindset to make the right calls.Furthermore, the degree of autonomy granted to weapon systems does not exist in a vacuum. It also depends on what the (potential) adversaries of the U.S. are able and willing to do for gaining an edge on the U.S. This arm race could ultimately undermine the idealized centaur model of human-machine teaming in war.Unsurprisingly, some non-profit organizations and smaller states strive for deliberately banning fully autonomous weapons due to what they consider the accountability gap in their performance. Think for example about crisis stability, escalation control, and war termination. These non-profit organizations and smaller states consider the international humanitarian law (IHL) principles of distinction, proportionality, and other rules insufficient in the presence of fully autonomous weapons. The humor is actually humorous, the main character isn't a brain dead self-obsessed fashionista, she doesn't fall into bed with the love interest five seconds after meeting him, the MC has actual problems that can't be solved by buying yet another pair of Jimmy Choos or Louboutins, and the ghost is neither a font of all wisdom nor the perky sidekick. (You can tell how annoying I find most of the cute vampire book tropes).Instead, the relationship between Jane and her sire is complicated, Jane has to struggle to figure out how to handle all the changes, she doesn't automatically know what gifts she may have acquired or how to use them, and there are real and very messy interactions between all the characters. I found it thoroughly refreshing. It's a fun, well-written read, and I look forward to the next one.

I actually listened to Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs before jumping into book two, but I have somehow missed the writing the review. Okay, Jane Jameson just living her life until, she got fired, and then it got turned upside down and inside out. I mean she was plain old Jane, until she got turned into a vampire. Once she was turned she ends up getting framed for murder, and she doesn't understand why Gabriel wants her. Her life hadn't been all that interesting until she turned to a vampire.Molly brings us into Jane's new world and we get join her on the wild ride. Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs is hilarious journey of Jane Jameson as she learns to navigate the world as a vampire. At the same time try to figure out why someone is trying to get her framed for murder, and keep her secret hidden from everyone she knew prior to her rise. This story is light and fun, and a great escape from the real world. I absolutely loved this book. I only had one issue about the story, and that was the ending was a bit awkward. I thought I actually had an abridged audiobook, but I didn't. Truly an awkward ending, then again it kind of fits Jane's awkward situation. However, the other books in the series didn't have that feeling. It could have been this was the first book in the series. That was my only issue to the story. Amanda Ronconi did a fabulous job and this book. I'm telling you I laugh so hard with her style of narration for this book. If you have a chance to checkout the Jane Jameson books, I highly recommend reading/listen. Plus, you want to start from the beginning. Granted Jane does a lot of recapping in the next books, but it's a lot more fun to start with Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs.

I loved this book, not only as a U.K. alum, but for the snarky writing style and wonderful humor. We've got a quirky librarian who lives in a holler where the Ohio and Kentucky rivers meet.**MILD SPOILERS AHEAD: The protagonist, Jane, has never fit in with the townsfolk or even wig most of her family - think of a modern yet country version of Disney's Belle (without the Stockholm syndrome). At the outset of the book she has the sad misfortune of being fired from a job she loves by a miserable and vindictive employer. After being sent home with a gift card to the local bar rather than a severance check she gets drunk and meets an interesting resident she's never met. Disappointed that the mysterious resident didn't kiss her goodnight after seeing her sober up and safely to her car, she heads home with mild worry of fulfilling the her mothers fear of becoming a lonely spinster with no man and no job. On her way home her death trap of a car breaks down, and some kind of way she stumbles into the woods by the edge of the road. Shortly thereafter she is shot and killed by a local, drunk hunter - who mistakenly thought she was a deer but didn't bother to leave his truck and determine what he hit!! 3 days later she awakes as a new member of the undead society of America... where she begins to learn how crazy her new life is shaping up to be!!This story is about Jane learning how to navigate her new life with the hope of it being more fulfilling than her human one - socially, career wise and most certainly in terms of her nonexistent love Life. While there are a few grammatical errors/typos throughout the book there aren't many and if you can get past them you'll enjoy the book for all it has to offer.

She’s got enough problems with her family so just how and when is she going to break the news to them? Vampires are out, but there is a great deal of fear and prejudice, and someone is out to get her.Jane’s relationship with Gabriel feels a little off and the story is somewhat jerky with her actions concerning him that sometimes seem to come out of left field. But again, this isn’t the HEA book I thought I’d be reading. Perhaps it wouldn’t have felt off if I’d known that up front.Definitely an interesting and funny story that seems to drag a little at times. But you’ve got to love the characters.

With already being a fan of Audrey Grey's writing before I started this book and loving Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles, I had high expectations for this. I can firmly say that I was not in the least disappointed!Throughout this series I could not tell which author wrote what. In collabs like that, I absolutely love that! Nothing throws off the flow of a book like two authors that aren't in sync. Granted this is my first time reading anything from Krystal Wade, I will definitely have to check out her other works.This very much was an easy flowed, action packed unique retelling of The Sleeping Beauty. There never really was a dull moment, not with the Odysseus crew around. Each character was fully developed and noteworthy in their own way. In my opinion that is what really makes a great book, when even the smaller characters have their own distinct personalities. The Sci-Fi elements really kept this fresh for me, there were several other elements but I don't want to give a single thing away. I will say some things were predictable, but it didn't take away from the story at all! With it being a retelling or as I like to call them now "reimagining", you're just going to have that. After reading this, I can safely say that I am officially now on a Sci-Fi kick and I'm not afraid to admit it!

That's a terrible comparison, but it's the best I could think of. I was very pleasantly surprised by the unique storyline and characters in Our Dark Stars. Set in the distant future, humans have found habitable planets to survive on and have built mocks (robots/droids) to help them, but the mocks start a war against their creators. Throw in a human princess and a "mock" salvage ship captain, plus a few criminally-inclined friends, and you've got an enjoyable, heartwarming, action adventure.

ThisI'm not really into the sci-fi genre but I'd heard such good things about this book, and quite frankly, the cover is gorgeous and drew me in. I loved the vivid world the authors created as well as the range and uniqueness of the characters. It easily kept me engaged and the writing was well done. The action and tension constantly built throughout but it didn't quite peak as strongly as I'd hoped. It was also a bit predictable, but this didn't really bother me as the story and writing was strong. I'd love to see what happens next and hope for higher octane action and romance in the next book.

You've got a strong female lead: a princess. A small element of time travel. The scoundrel type ship captain and his crew. The AI overtaking humans trope. And it all gets tired up with a nice bow, but also with an open opportunity for a sequel (I hope)?

3.5 stars. Not the most developed characters but overall the story was fast paced, entertaining, with a cute romance. Recommend for any YA sci-fi romance fans!

Y'ALL. The first month of 2018 isn't even half over when I'm typing this, and I've already read one (well, two, but more on that later this week) of my absolute favorite reads of the year. 2018, Audrey Grey, and Krystal Wade have all blessed me.
First off, let's take a moment to appreciate that absolutely gorgeous cover. I know I've talked about my usual distaste for people on covers thing before, but I can't help but make heart eyes at this one. It's what drew me to this title to begin with, so major props to the cover designer. Now, I'll admit, the synopsis made me hesitate a bit. I'm not usually one for sci-fi, so I had to have a little internal debate on whether or not I should took a chance. I figured "2018, new year, new me, blah blah blah" and went for it. Shoutout to past me, because I didn't have any of the problems I usually run into when reading sci-fi.
If you're sci-fi hesitant like I was, rest assured that this isn't your run of the mill sci-fi. For one, it's not crazy dense with off the wall technologies and hard to understand worlds. The world building is still great, and you still very much feel like you're in space, with all of the good stuff that entails, but it's not too much. There wasn't a single moment where I felt overwhelmed or confused. The writing flows so nicely, and the pacing isn't too slow or too fast, so you'll be turning pages at a steady rate and devouring this one like I did.
Now, for the characters and the romance. I don't want to gush too much, but the romance aspect was done absolutely perfectly. There was angst, but not too much angst. I dig the whole "enemies to lovers" kind of deal, so I was automatically on board for it. As for the characters themselves, I felt like they all had very distinct voices and personalities. You get invested in their lives, and genuinely start to freak out (audibly squeal and flail) when they're in danger. I freaking love Will, but y'all know I always end up going for the rough around the edges boys, so that shouldn't shock you.
I won't ramble too much more. Just trust me when I say that you want to read this book. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

I read this as a follow up to Memoirs of A Geisha, as she was interviewed by its author as part of the research. I found this to be much more enjoyable and a striking contrast to that book. Highly recommend it (although take her words with a grain of salt, as for anyone to contradict her claims, they'd have to break their tradition of silence like she did, and face the same negative feedback and responses.)

This is a fascinating look at a unique culture, as well as an engaging autobiography. The world of the geisha is completely foreign to people in the West, yet Iwasaki presents it with such clarity that we come to think of it as simply an artist's way of life, rather than some bizarre social aberration. She is forthright about the rigidity of the system and the need to rid it of anachronistic practices and restrictions on the women who work within it. She also does a great service in demolishing the all-too-common assumption among non-Japanese that geisha are expensive prostitutes. They are "women of art," trained from youth in traditional Japanese music and dance with which they entertain guests. Think of a ballet dancer, but one whose performances are done mostly at private parties.

This book is written by a true Gion Kyoto Geisha, not a oiran courtesan or a hot springs geisha. She speaks about her training and sacrifices, her joys and sorrows as a Geisha. She is well versed in drawing the reader into her world much as she does in her banquets in the tea houses Very enjoyable.

Mineko's style of writing was a bit odd at first, yet soon found myself seeing, feeling, and sharing every experience she conveyed! I am in my mid 60 s and have had a love for all things Japanese since I was 3. I have read much about Japanese history, culture and beliefs over the years so perhaps it was easier for me to become so immersed in her story. I am truly grateful for her sharing this most extraordinary part of her life with world and wish her all the love and happiness her heart can hold. Domo arigato gozaimashita!

A must read. I got my first copy of this book maybe 7 years and bought this as a replacement since I've read it so many times is fallen apart. Just disappointed that the photos included in the middle aren't in color like in my first copy

This book was a beautiful memoir. I am appreciative of Japanese culture and customs, and this book teaches you so much.I have so much respect for this woman and what she accomplished. I read it in 4hours I only wish more biography's could be as immersive as this one was for me.

I loved this book! I could not put it down. I learned so much about the geisha culture/lifestyle. It's an amazing story and easily one of my favorite books.

This is a memoir of Japan's foremost geisha. I loved this book and will read it again. It tells of how geisha girls are picked and groomed for their profession. They are not prostitutes; simply entertainers, and very skilled ones at that. Anybody who loves Oriental culture will love this book.
